Countdown to Christmas!

Well, Christmas is almost here.  I hope everyone is ready.  We have been very busy enjoying our holiday preparations.  It has cooled down here in the South and it's finally feeling like winter.  The house is decorated and soon visions of sugarplums will be dancing in our heads.  I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

November Chills

As we begin the month of November, it comes here in Florida with a chill in the air.  It seems to almost be mother nature's way of reminding us that winter is upon us in many of our northern states.

Winter reminds me of the years my family lived in Massachusetts.  I had a horse, of course, and would attach ropes to her and have her pull me on a sled around the neighborhood.  Looking back I must say what a tolerant horse she was.  She could have kicked my head off.  My rope harness certainly wasn't safe for me or the horse, nor was the child's sled I'd sit upon.  But it was fun even though it was cold.

After living back in the south for many years I now wonder how I even tolerated the cold.  Now, when the temp dips below 70 I'm freezing.  But looking back on my childhood memory of my horse, "Missouri" I remember how I looked forward to the snow, so I could get out my rope and sled and have her pull me around.

Halloween Eve is almost here!

Halloween eve is almost upon us.  I'm excited that this year it falls on a weekend, giving my friends and family a little extra time to enjoy the holiday.  With the weather starting to cool and the full moon in the evenings, it's really put me in the holiday mood.  Last night as I watched the deer from my window coming to feed in the moonlight I thought how perfect it would be to take a moonlight ride upon my horse, if only I didn't have to work in the morning.  Perhaps the moon will still be bright by the coming weekend and I can have my midnight ride, and maybe scare a few neighbors.

With Halloween almost here, it's hard to believe it's time to start thinking about Christmas and gift giving ideas.  Be sure to check out my website as I have some wonderful handmade items that would make the perfect gift.  Keep checking back as we'll be adding some more additional holiday items very soon.

If you're taking your little ones out Trick or Treating remember to stay safe and enjoy the holiday!

We're back from the State Championships

We had a great time at the State show.  It was so nice to see so many familiar faces and some new ones too. We are especially proud of our model horse, Skyjacker's Untold Secret a/k/a Barney, who took home the blue in the WHOA Open Model and Youth Model Divisions, as well as a reserve in the Adult Model and third in the Grand Championship Model division.  As you can see in this photo, Barney is quite a looker and it's no wonder he's been featured in books, calendars and is a top model horse.  We are especially proud to be in the running of the top 10 model horses in the nation for WHOA and the Walking Horse Report High Point.  Way to go Barney!

We are also proud of Jose on the Bay a/k/a Otis, who took home blue ribbons in the 4 and under Trail Pleasure Walking preliminary and championship divisions.  We expect great things from Otis!

Now it's back to crafting.  We will be at the Fiesta in the Park in Orlando, Florida, on November 6th and 7th.  Be sure to come visit us!

Fall is in the Air!

This morning as I stepped outside I felt fall in the air. The wind was blowing, and as I watched the horses run in the pasture amid the morning glow, it was just beautiful. We've had such a hot summer this year it was nice to catch a glimpse of fall. Soon all the autumn colors will be in full bloom as mother nature paints her most vibrant colors.

Sending prayers to the South

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Tennessee and the other parts of the country who have been affected by the devastating floods and tornadoes. The photos that are coming out of the flood areas are just unbelievable. I'm so sorry for the families who have lost loved ones, saddened for those who are still missing family members and for the many who have lost their homes.

For those who wish to give, please consider going to the American Red Cross website. On their website they give you many ways in which to donate and/or volunteer. http://www.redcross.org/

I am also impressed at the courage many have shown during this time and how the Nashville community has pulled together in this tragedy. I hope the flood waters recede soon and folks can rebuild their lives. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Space, the final frontier...

Last night we got to watch the space station pass over the farm. As we got out our lawn chairs out and set them by the barn, even the deer started to come out early as if they too wanted to watch with us. The sky was clear and it was a little cool, a perfect night. The sun had set and the sky set a brilliant stage. It was visible for one of the longest times we had seen it. It seemed like it passed directly above our heads. As it disappeared in the distance, we knew we couldn't wait until it comes our way again.

It's finally starting to feel like Spring!

It's finally starting to feel like spring. The days are getting longer and I'm enjoying spending more time with all my critters in the evening. I'm also working in my garden with hopes that the deer won't eat my flowers again this year. But, if they do that's alright, someone has to enjoy them.

Though the deer always manage eat the leaves off my rose bushes, they don't eat the flowers. This makes for some interesting looking rose bushes. So, I thought this was a good time to offer my yellow rose tags again. These are free and my way of saying thank you. Just download them, print them on card stock, cut them out and enjoy! You can put some varnish on them to give them a nice shine or glitter them up!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

March 17th is St. Patrick's Day. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years. On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast, on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

So I hope everyone out there has a safe and happy St. Patrick's Day.

March is here!

Well, March is here and by now, we're all hoping for an early spring that doesn't seem to want to come. Even here in Central Florida the weather has been downright cold. This past Sunday showed the first hopes of spring as I was able to get out and enjoy the weather with my horses. It was truly a wonderful day.

Some things to look forward to this month are the first day of Spring on March 20th, Palm Sunday on the 28th, Passover on the 30th, St. Patrick's Day on the 17th and, of course, daylight savings time which begins on March 14th. I so look forward to having the longer daylight days as it allows me to spend more time with all my critters.

So here's hoping that Spring arrives soon, that we all get out and enjoy this wonderful country we live in, and breath that good clean air.

Till next time I send you prim hugs,

Mary
